ARRS 2008 opens in Washington D.C.

Medical Conferences News - ARRS 2008
New curricula of teaching and modern imaging methods were introduced in the opening session of the American Roentgen Ray Society's annual meeting in Washington, D.C.

New curricula of teaching and modern imaging methods were introduced in Washington, D.C. on Sunday as hundreds of radiological professionals brought the grand ballroom of the Marriott Wardman park hotel to full capacity during the first session of the ARRS 2008 categorical course.

Though a traumatic rupture of an intracranial dermoid tumor is not an everyday occurrence for many of us, for one radiologist attending this year's 2008 categorical course on State-of-the-Art Emergency and Trauma Radiology a patient presenting with such a finding in his new emergency room CT suite provided a significant wake up call and was the definite inspiration for his prompt registration.

In instances where rapid recognition is crucial for better patient outcome, pitfalls and associated abnormalities were strongly emphasized through the multiple diseases and injuries discussed throughout Sunday's neuroimaging session.

The Senior Radiologist Section often referred to as 'The SRS' is a well recognized 161 member special interest group of radiologists within the ARRS. Keeping with a time-honored tradition, this year's annual lecture was delivered by SRS Member, Dr. David Levin titled, 'Recollections of a cold war pilot: Why the aviation industry quality paradigm won't work'.

During the evening's opening ceremonies, ARRS President, Professor Anton Hasso, provided this year's attendees and guests with a grand welcome and directed the installation of the new 2008-2009 president, Dr. John K. Crowe. Dr. Crowe is a staff radiologist at Scottsdale Medical Imaging in Arizona and is the Trustee for Ultrasound for the American Board of Radiology. He holds an academic appointment at Yale University and is also a senior clinical lecturer in the department of radiology at the University of Arizona in Tucson.  Dr. Crowe gave his 2008 presidential address titled 'Radiology: Icon of Medicine, Avatar of Change'.
