The American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO) is accepting applications for Survivor Circle grants from cancer support organizations in the Miami area through June 4, 2011.

The winner of the Survivor Circle Award will receive $1,000 and be honored at a ceremony at the Miami Beach Convention Center in Miami Beach, Fla., during ASTRO’s 53rd Annual Scientific Meeting ( ASTRO 2011 )in October.

"Cancer survivors are the most generous and supportive folks that I know," Michael Steinberg, MD, FASTRO, president-elect of ASTRO, said. "The Survivor Circle Award honors some of those special individuals who have generously reached out to help others who are in need of support in their fight against cancer."

Any cancer survivor residing within the Miami area who received radiation therapy as part of treatment is eligible for the award. The winner may keep the cash prize of $1,000 or donate it to a support organization or charity of his or her choice. All interested applicants must fill out a short application focusing on what the applicant has done to give back to the community.

Applications must be postmarked by June 4, 2011. 

Applications for the 2011 Survivor Circle Award must be postmarked by Saturday, June 4, 2011.
