The Association of Residents in Radiation Oncology, ARRO, has elected three new members to its Executive Committee. Karen L. De Amorim Bernstein, M.D., of Albert Einstein College in Bronx, N.Y.; Luqman Dad, M.D., of Roswell Park Cancer Institute in Buffalo, N.Y.; and Vinai Gondi, M.D., of the University of Wisconsin in Madison, Wis., will each serve two-year terms.

ARRO is the resident organization within ASTRO, the American Society for Radiation Oncology. It currently represents nearly 600 radiation oncology residents in the United States. Founded in 1983, the objectives of ARRO are to formalize resident input into professional organizations affecting radiation oncology residents, to disseminate information and to foster communication among residents. Membership is free and automatic to all residents and clinical fellows in accredited radiation oncology programs in the U.S.

“I am delighted to see so many talented future radiation oncologists getting involved in ARRO and ASTRO. Their input into improving radiation oncology residency is important as it helps improve upon their training to the benefit of cancer patients,” Patricia Eifel, M.D., FASTRO, chairman of ASTRO, said. “I congratulate these hard-working men and women as they begin their service to the radiation oncology community.”

Drs. Bernstein, Dad and Gondi are now junior Executive Committee members of ARRO and will join the three senior Executive Committee members in representing their fellow residents: Johnny Ray Bernard, M.D., of Mayo Clinic-Jacksonville in Jacksonville, Fla.; Casey T. Chollet, M.D. of Loyola University Medical Center in Chicago; and Linna Li, M.D. of Fox Chase Cancer Center in Philadelphia.

ASTRO is the largest radiation oncology society in the world, with more than 10,000 members who specialize in treating patients with radiation therapies. As the leading organization in radiation oncology, biology and physics, the Society is dedicated to improving patient care through education, clinical practice, advancement of science and advocacy.
