Agfa's IMPAX Data Center Enables EHR: RSNA

Company News - Agfa HealthCare

The IMPAX Data Center from Agfa HealthCare delivers enterprise visualization of clinical imaging data, providing the Electronic Health Record (EHR) with a centralized, vendor-neutral, clinical imaging repository and helping to achieve meaningful use, according to a white paper commissioned by Agfa HealthCare.

Developed by Beacon Partners and underwritten with a grant from EMC Corporation, "Meaningful Use of Agfa HealthCare 's Medical Imaging Repository and Enterprise Visualization Solution Using an EMC Infrastructure" demonstrates how Agfa HealthCare'sIMPAXDataCenterconsolidates standards-based clinical and diagnostic images and related data into a centralized patient-centric view. The unified, patient-centric longitudinal patient record streamlines clinicians' access to medical images and results.

" Agfa HealthCare 'sIMPAXDataCenterintegrates diagnostic imaging and data silos throughout an enterprise, allowing a single point of integration for the EHR, as well as a single point of access for specialists and referring and primary care physicians," said Don Dennison,Director, eHealth and Regional Health Business, Agfa HealthCare. "Providers have an unprecedented opportunity to view patient data in one integrated solution in their EHR or EMR (Electronic Medical Record)."

Agfa HealthCare'sIMPAXDataCenterdelivers interoperability by adhering to and leveraging the Integrating the Healthcare Enterprise (IHE) technical framework (http://www.ihe.net) and supporting a vendor-neutral view of previously fragmented healthcare information, according to the white paper. An added benefit is the solution's efficient IT infrastructure, which can contribute to lower costs for information-driven EHRs, health information exchanges (HIEs), and comparative research.

TheIMPAXDataCentersolution also helps providers achieve meaningful use and qualify for incentives available through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA). The white paper details some 13 specific ARRA requirements, addressed through theIMPAXDataCentersolution and its innovative IMPAX Data Center Viewer. Among them are:

  • Clinical decision support at the point of care
  •  Medical device interoperability
  •  Multimedia support
  •  Dynamic and ad hoc quality reports
  •  Protection of sensitive healthcare information
  •  Implementation of one clinical decision rule
  •  Electronic exchange of clinical information

"TheIMPAXDataCentermedical imaging repository and its Image Viewer, combined withEMChardware, software, and services, provides the performance, security, and integration needed to streamline EHR and medical imaging needs," saidLenny Reznik,Director, Enterprise Imaging and Information,Agfa HealthCare,USA.
