UK’s largest primary care centre/ polyclinic installs Agfa HealthCare CR systems and radiology reporting stations.

The Aldershot Centre for Health, the UK’s largest primary care centre/ polyclinic has installed Agfa HealthCare computed radiography (CR) systems and radiology reporting stations to achieve its goal of providing comprehensive front-line diagnostic services to people living in and around Aldershot.

Aldershot Centre for Health replaces services provided by the Victorian Cambridge Military Hospital and run-down wooden huts that provided services for the Army and clinics for the nearby Frimley Park Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. It brings together a range of primary, secondary and community services, including: three local GP practices; Aldershot Garrison Medical Centre; dental services; community nurses; children's services; a pharmacy; Frimley Park Hospital outpatient pain clinic; Army Primary Healthcare Services South Region Headquarters.

With the recent installation of the CR 35-X and CR 85-X systems, together with radiologist reporting stations, Aldershot-based patients no longer need to travel to Frimley Park Hospital, which manages the radiology service at the new Centre, or to the nearby Cambridge Military Hospital, which has wet processing technology. Furthermore, images captured at the new Centre are sent to the Agfa HealthCare IMPAX PACS at Frimley Park, and they become available for instant expert review, if required.

Having workstations on-site also means that radiologists visiting the new Centre can retrieve images from the PACS that have been captured not only in Aldershot and Frimley, but also at the satellite hospitals in Fleet and Farnham, which are also supported by the archiving system. This means the radiologists can use their time as effectively as possible to report on patients’ images.
