Capital Region Orthopaedics Selects Allscripts EHR/PM

Company News - AllscriptsMisys Healthcare Solutions, Inc.

Capital Region Orthopaedics selected the Allscripts electronic health record ( EHR ) and practice management solution

Allscripts announced that Capital Region Orthopaedics has selected the Allscripts electronic health record ( EHR ) and practice management solution to automate and connect 27 physicians in six locations across the Albany area.

"We intend that the electronic health record will help us further our mission of improving the patient experience through the provision of high quality care, while at the same time enhancing the everyday work experience of our providers," said David Quinn, MD, of Capital Region Orthopaedics.

In continuous practice for more than 50 years, Capital Region Orthopaedics combines specialists and diagnostics under one roof to address the full spectrum of general and sub-specialty orthopaedic problems.

The Allscripts Electronic Health Record automates many daily clinical tasks, such as prescribing medications and documenting clinical encounters, while connecting providers to each other and to labs, pharmacies and insurers.  It comes with extensive orthopaedic-specific clinical content, enables orthopaedic practices to adapt existing documentation templates for common problems and injuries, captures clinical images directly into the patient's chart, and interfaces with picture archiving and communications systems ( PACS ). The Allscripts Practice Management solution is fully integrated with the Electronic Health Record and features sophisticated scheduling and revenue cycle management tools.

As part of the implementation, Capital Region Orthopaedics will deploy the Allscripts Patient Kiosk to enhance patient check-in, and Allscripts Remote, delivering virtually anytime, anywhere access to and control of the EHR on a physician's iPhone®, BlackBerry or Windows smart phone.

"Orthopaedic practices prefer our electronic health record and practice management solution because it is uniquely designed to optimize the orthopaedic workflow and best practices," said Glen Tullman, Chief Executive Officer of Allscripts. "We are excited that Capital Region Orthopaedics has also selected two of our latest innovations, the patient kiosk and Allscripts Remote, to help drive their quest to improve patient care and do so in a way that keeps healthcare efficient and affordable for their patients."

Allscripts Remote enables physicians to safely make critical medical decisions even when they are away from the office by making all relevant information available on the one device they keep closest – their phone. Capabilities include quick access to real-time patient summary information; fast communication to local hospital emergency rooms; convenient ePrescribing to the patient's regular pharmacy; and real-time access to all the information a physician needs to make decisions, including medical history, lab results and medications.

Allscripts Patient Kiosk solves a common patient complaint—the seemingly endless stream of paperwork they must fill out every time they register for an appointment. Allscripts Patient Kiosk  eliminates this frustration while helping physician practices reduce the costs and overhead associated with traditional patient check-in. The integration of the Fujitsu PalmSecure palm vein authentication solution maintains patient confidentiality, privacy and information security.
