Allscripts announced that Diagnostic Center of Medicine has selected Allscripts EHR and PM
Allscripts (Nasdaq: MDRX) announced that Diagnostic Center of Medicine (DCOM), one of the oldest and largest primary care physician groups in Southern Nevada, has selected Allscripts Electronic Health Record (EHR) and Practice Management (PM) for its physicians in three locations.
DCOM, which has been a Misys client for several years, is upgrading their current practice management solution and implementing an Electronic Health Record for the first time to automate everyday clinical tasks and enhance the quality of patient care they deliver. The Allscripts EHR compliments the 33-year-old practice's use of sophisticated in-house diagnostic equipment and takes its commitment to patient service "to the next level" said Chief Operating Officer Shawn Foley.
While Foley's team had been searching for an Electronic Health Record for many years, the passage of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA), which offers up to $44,000 in incentives for physicians who adopt an EHR in 2011, provided the motivation for them to act now.
"Some people initially took a wait-and-see approach to the incentives, but it has become increasingly clear that you need to get the implementation underway now to maximize the opportunity," said Foley, referring to the gradual phase-down of ARRA funding. "That said, the real stimulus is the cost savings from eliminating paper and providing a more streamlined workflow for our clinicians. That leads to better patient care, which is our number one priority."
DCOM expects to save $4.1 million over five years with the Electronic Health Record, largely from reduced transcription charges, more accurate billing, and lower expenses for records management. Motivated by those cost-savings but also more powerfully by the promise of enhanced patient care, DCOM's physicians were ready when the decision to implement an EHR was made, according to Michelle D. Conger, D.O., Chief Executive Officer of DCOM.
"Our doctors are excited about using Allscripts because it will allow them to spend more time with patients, give them better access to patient information when and where they need it, and we think it will also contribute to better patient outcomes," said Dr. Conger.
Glen Tullman, Chief Executive Officer of Allscripts, commented, "Diagnostic Center of Medicine has a well-deserved reputation for leveraging the latest technology to provide the highest level of quality and become more efficient. We're proud that they've selected Allscripts to deliver on that critical mission."
The Allscripts Electronic Health Record and Practice Management solution for small and medium-sized physician practices is an easy-to-deploy, physician-centric solution that improves the delivery of safe, cost-effective, high-quality care. The Electronic Health Record provides caregivers instant and secure access to the complete patient record anytime and anywhere, while automating everyday clinical tasks and connecting physicians to pharmacies, laboratories and other healthcare stakeholders. The Practice Management solution improves the productivity of administrative staff, simplifies patient record keeping, streamlines billing and improves cash flow, with the industry's most user-friendly interface and extensible design. Built on a single intelligent platform, the Allscripts solutions can be implemented separately or together to help the clinical and administrative sides of a practice work hand-in-hand for better communication, improved accuracy and safety.
