ACR 2008 - Eliot Siegel, M.D., will present the Moreton Lecture during the 2008 American College of Radiology Annual Meeting and Chapter Leadership Conference (AMCLC).

Eliot Siegel, M.D., (pictured left) will present the Moreton Lecture Monday, May 19, at 8:15 a.m. Eastern Time during the 2008 American College of Radiology Annual Meeting and Chapter Leadership Conference (AMCLC), May 17-21, 2008, at the Hilton Washington in Washington, D.C. The topic of Dr. Siegel's lecture will regard "Preparing for Radiology in 2015: An Imaging Informatics Perspective."

Dr. Siegel is a professor of radiology and vice chair of the Department of Diagnostic Radiology at the University of Maryland School of Medicine as well as chief of radiology and nuclear medicine for the Veterans Affairs Maryland Healthcare System, both in Baltimore, MD. He is also responsible for the National Cancer Institute (NCI) National Cancer Image Archive and is workspace lead of the NCI caBIG (Cancer Biomedical Informatics Grid) In Vivo Imaging Workspace. Under his guidance, the VA Maryland Health Care System became the first filmless health care enterprise in the United States.

Dr. Siegel has written over 200 articles and book chapters about PACS (Picture Archiving and Communication Systems) and digital imaging, and has edited six books on the topic, including Filmless Radiology and Security Issues in the Digital Medical Enterprise. He has made more than 1,000 presentations throughout the world on a broad range of topics involving the use of computers in medicine.

Dr. Siegel has been named Radiological Society of North America's (RSNA) Researcher of the Year, received multiple awards for innovation including the Smithsonian Award, and was selected as runner-up for Educator of the Year for Diagnostic Radiology. He has been selected as one of the top 10 radiologists for the past two years by the readers and editorial board of Medical Imaging.

Dr. Siegel served as symposium chair for the Society of Photo-Optical and Industrial Engineers (SPIE) Medical Imaging Meeting for three years, is currently chair of publications for the Society for Imaging Informatics in Radiology (SIIM) and has been honored as a fellow in that organization. He is also chairman of the RSNA Medical Imaging Resource Committee.
