Aware, Inc. demonstrates new medical imaging software for telemedicine at ATA 2007

Company News - Aware, Inc.

Aware, Inc., a global provider of imaging and biometrics software, has announced that it will be showcasing AccuRad, its newest medical imaging product suite at ATA 2007, this week at the Annual Meeting of the American Telemedicine Association.

May 13 - 15 in Nashville, Tennessee. In its booth at ATA, Aware offers a live demonstration of AccuRad's features, including its image compression, streaming, and viewing.

"There is strong demand to make medical images more accessible for remote review, diagnosis, and collaboration between locations, and users are often constrained by limited network capacity or bandwidth," commented David Benini, Aware's director of product marketing. "AccuRad provides solution developers with software components that address these problems with DICOM-compatible JPEG 2000 and JPIP image compression, streaming, and viewing technology."

Aware's AccuRad is comprised of three software development kits (SDKs) that include libraries, sample applications with source code, a command line codec, and a Windows GUI tool with viewer. Aware's AccuRad J2KSuite enables JPEG 2000 compression and decompression. The AccuRad JPIPStream toolkit enables a developer to build JPIP-compliant servers and clients. Finally, AccuRad DICOMView ActiveX component combines the latest delivery and display technologies for viewing medical images in a standard browser and is easily integrated into other viewing applications.

Aware's AccuRad solution also includes implementations of the JPEG 2000 and JPIP imaging standards, which employ advanced compression and streaming techniques to greatly reduce the file size of medical images and improve transmission time. In addition to smaller file sizes, AccuRad's region of interest viewing and progressive display dramatically speeds up the image viewing process and is significantly more efficient for remote users, such as teleradiologists, accessing the images and volumes.
