BRIT Systems today announced the works-in-progress mammography module for use with the company’s PACS viewer, The Radiology Workbench for Linux.

The mammography viewer can be used with any FDA-cleared full-field digital mammography (FFDM) system or with digitized film from a film-screen system.

“As a result of the ACRIN study and the continued improvement in FFDM technology, more centers are acquiring digital mammography,” said Michele Fisher, vice president of sales, BRIT Systems. “BRIT’s mammography module will provide an easy-to-use, multimodality workstation for the review of mammography studies, as well as any other DICOM-conformant exams.”

This new module will provide mammography specific reading tools, including support for CAD overlays, over-reading tools with statistics, special hot-keys and icons and animated hanging protocols.

One of the distinct advantages of the mammography module for The Radiology Workbench for Linux is the enabling of multi-modality image analysis and review on a single workstation. Additionally, color images, particularly those from ultrasound, can be viewed on the workstation with BRIT’s standard two portrait grayscale and one
landscape color monitor configuration.

“This product launch is another example of our company’s vision to provide a total image management and distribution solution for facilities of all sizes and image study volume,” Fisher added.

The system is being developed with support from Kelsey-Seybold Clinic, part of the St. Luke’s Episcopal Health System in the metropolitan Houston area. Commercial availability is expected in September of 2006.
