Barco has received a significant order from GE Healthcare to supply Coronis Fusion 6MP DL diagnostic displays to St. Luke's International Hospital in Tokyo

Medical imaging specialist Barco has received a significant order from GE Healthcare to supply Coronis Fusion 6MP DL diagnostic displays to St. Luke's International Hospital in Tokyo, Japan. The new displays will enable radiologists to visualize diverse clinical modalities on a single workstation, rather than on separate monitors. The 6 MegaPixel displays will be supplied through Toyo Corporation, Barco's local distributor in Japan.

As a long-term user of Barco medical imaging products, St. Luke's International Hospital has an outstanding reputation in medical care, nursing, clinical preventive services, education and research. Under a recent Centricity* PACS (Picture Archiving and Communications System) project with GE Healthcare, the hospital upgraded to Barco's next-generation display system, Coronis Fusion 6MP DL.

“We were in search of a high-brightness display solution that could deliver multi-modality viewing without compromises,” explains Dr. Hiroko Tsunoda, Director of the Radiology Department. “When we first tried out the Barco Coronis Fusion 6MP DL at the JCR 2008 congress, we were very impressed by its outstanding image quality, both in color and grayscale. This diagnostic versatility makes it possible to read grayscale, color-enhanced and fused images side-by-side, on a single workstation, which makes it a perfect fit for our requirements.”

The multi-modality capabilities of the Coronis Fusion 6MP DL are a direct result of the product's exceptionally high contrast ratio of 800:1. “It means that dark black levels are truly black and bright white levels are truly white, even from a wide viewing angle. This has a very positive effect on our diagnostic confidence and precision,” clarifies Dr. Katsunori Oikado, radiologist at St. Luke's. “During our daily reading sessions, we also take great benefit from the system's ultra-fast image processing power, which allows us to load and review large, multi-slice studies very smoothly and efficiently”, Dr. Oikado adds.

In addition to the multi-modality PACS displays, St. Luke's will also deploy the Barco Coronis 5MP Mammo system, a dedicated display solution for digital mammography and other modalities such as MRI , CT and Ultrasound . The 5MP systems will present the hospital's radiologists with high-resolution grayscale images, characterized by superb contrast and perfect geometry.
