Technology Inc. today announced accreditation from the ICAMRL for the Aurora® 1.5Tesla Dedicated Breast MRI System.

Technology Inc. today announced that Breast MRI of Oklahoma and the Breast Center of Hattiesburg Clinic each have received accreditation from the Intersocietal Commission for the Accreditation of Magnetic Resonance Laboratories (ICAMRL) for the Aurora® 1.5Tesla Dedicated Breast MRI System.  This recent news is a milestone for the medical imaging community as these centers are the first ever to receive accreditation for a breast MRI unit specifically designed from the ground up for the detection, diagnosis and management of breast disease.  The ICAMRL accreditation sets a high standard for health centers and meets the requirements of third-party payors mandating official accountability to guarantee reimbursement for insured patients.

"It is quite an accomplishment to receive the ICAMRL accreditation—health centers take pride in their peer-reviewed stamp of approval because they are being recognized for providing quality patient care within the medical imaging community," said Mary T. Lally, RT, technical manager, ICAMRL.  "The ICAMRL accreditation program is comprised of several separate, yet integrated aspects of quality assurance in the laboratory, collectively focused on the goal to provide optimum patient care.  The process is one of ongoing quality assurance, and the accreditation decision is based on substantial compliance with The ICAMRL Standards, through peer review and then finalized by the ICAMRL board of directors.  Facilities that have processes in place to assure quality patient care, provide high quality images and comprehensive interpretations, deserve this recognition."

ICAMRL is one of two well-respected governing bodies that provide accreditation for medical facilities with imaging modalities.  Recent studies on the benefits of MRI as an advanced diagnostic tool for breast disease, and the latest American Cancer Society (ACS) guidelines, which recommend breast MRI for women at high risk of breast cancer, have influenced the increased use of MRI for the breast in the past year.  MRI accreditation is now becoming a standard for breast health centers, and ICAMRL provides recognition for those that meet their guidelines.

"Our ICAMRL accreditation affirms our center's mission to provide the best quality of service for all of our patients," said Michele Yesalusky, MRI technologist, Breast MRI of Oklahoma.  "We've had the Aurora Breast MRI at Breast MRI of Oklahoma since 2003 and are very pleased that through this accreditation, we'll be able to continually provide uninterrupted, reimbursable breast MRI services for our insured patients."

"We have been very happy with the addition of the Aurora Breast MRI to our breast center and recognize that there's still an opportunity for increased utilization of its unique imaging and biopsy capabilities," said William A. Whitehead, MD, general surgeon, Breast Center of Hattiesburg Clinic.  "The ICAMRL accreditation supports our vision to develop a world-class breast health program and sustains our goal of making the best health care accessible to our valued patients."

Breast MRI of Oklahoma and the Breast Center of Hattiesburg Clinic both received ICAMRL accreditation for their Aurora Breast MRI this summer.

"We congratulate both Breast MRI of Oklahoma City and Breast Center of Hattiesburg Clinic as they achieved a significant accomplishment for their health centers with the ICAMRL accreditation," said Olivia Ho Cheng, president and chief executive officer, Aurora Imaging Technology Inc.  "We proudly support and encourage breast care facilities to proactively engage in this evaluation process to ensure continuity of quality breast health services, in order to reach our mutual goal of improving patient care in the fight against breast disease."
