In preparation for a 2010 market launch, medical device company Applied Physiology, presented the Navigator cardiovascular care system at the annual Medica exhibition.
The care of critical patients is complex, expensive and often very difficult. Despite this, there is a surprising lack of clinical decision support to assist critical care clinicians. Navigator, a new breed of cardiovascular care system that provides clinical decision support and targeted therapy, debuted last month at Medica, the world's largest medical trade fair.
Sydney based medical device company Applied Physiology Pty Ltd, developer of the Navigator system for cardiovascular management, exhibited as part of the Australian Pavilion at the conference. Each year leading medical companies from all over the world attend Medica to meet with partners and distributors. This year Medica attracted a record 138,000 visitors and 4,324 exhibitors.
During the meeting, Applied Physiology Medical Director, Prof Geoffrey Parkin, commented that "Healthcare providers urgently need better systems to make the delivery of care more consistent and reliable. Navigator has great potential to revolutionise the care of critically-ill patients by enabling a systematic and protocol-based approach to care."
To address clinician cognitive overload and to simplify cardiovascular care, the Navigator system interprets cardiovascular data and presents the information graphically against treatment goals. Navigator clinical decision support is useful in any situation in which resuscitation, stabilization and optimization of hemodynamic and oxygen metabolism is required, including ICU, OR and emergency medicine.
