CARESTREAM DRX-1: Strong Customer Demand in Canada

Company News - Carestream Health, Inc.

Canadian healthcare providers also purchased other CR, DR systems from the Carestream Health ’s comprehensive product portfolio

Carestream Health reported strong customer demand for its wireless, cassette-size CARESTREAM DRX-1 System, along with its CARESTREAM DRX-Evolution  suite throughout Canada. These products can help streamline overall imaging workflow, while simultaneously improving productivity and enhancing patient care.

Radiology Consultants Associated (RCA) of Calgary, Alberta, implemented CARESTREAM DRX-1 and CARESTREAM DRX-Evolution Systems. This private radiologist group operates 12 independent diagnostic imaging centers.

“The DRX-1 detector fits right into existing Buckys and avoids the need for a tether, which is cumbersome and can limit patient positioning. The new detector is also lightweight and it’s very slender, which helps enhance comfort during patient positioning. When you combine all of those attributes with rapid, wireless communication and an affordable price, it’s a very compelling solution,” said Mark Sevcik, RCA’s Operations and Development Director.

He added that the automated DRX-Evolution suite “can handle every imaging exam because of the unique DRX-1 detectors. This single system has everything we need for a highly productive, diverse imaging workflow.”

Other Canadian healthcare providers that have placed orders for digital imaging systems from Carestream Health include:

  • Brooke Radiology Inc., of Vancouver, British Columbia, ordered four DRX-1 systems and two KODAK DIRECTVIEW Elite CR systems.
  • Collège Boréal, Sudbury, Ontario, ordered one DRX-1 system.
  • Insight Medical Imaging, Edmonton, Alberta, has installed two DRX-1 systems and one Elite CR Mammography system.
  • North Shore Medical Imaging Inc., North Vancouver, British Columbia, ordered a DRX-1 system, a DR 3500 and an Elite CR Mammography system.
  • Saskatoon Medical Imaging, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan ordered three DRX-1 systems and two CR Elite Mammography CR systems from CAN-med Healthcare, an authorized dealer.
  • Willowgrove Clinic, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, ordered a Classic CR from CAN-med Healthcare, an authorized dealer.

The CARESTREAM DRX-1 System features a cassette-size DR detector that fits into an existing table or wall stand Bucky and communicates images over a wireless network connection. It enables cost-effective conversion from film or CR imaging systems to highly productive DR technology—without replacing x-ray systems or renovating exam rooms.

The DRX-Evolution system helps improve both productivity and patient care by matching the positioning flexibility of the DRX-1 detector with a fully automated suite of precision x-ray equipment. The need to move sick or injured patients around a fixed DR detector is eliminated. Instead the DRX-1 detector can be removed from the bucky tray for tabletop views, and the system’s wall stand can be positioned by the table for cross-table views. Images are transmitted over a wireless network and appear on the console in seconds.

The company has also developed a CARESTREAM DRX-Mobile Retrofit Kit that will allow healthcare providers to upgrade selected mobile x-ray systems to wireless DRX-1 technology. This wireless DR system can help increase on-site productivity and deliver immediate access to images for improved patient care, especially for critically ill patients in emergency rooms, operating rooms and the ICU. The company is taking orders for the retrofit kit in countries where it has regulatory approval. The system will be available this summer.
