Large Regional Medical Center Purchases 13 Digital Imaging Solutions from Carestream Health

Company News - Carestream Health, Inc.

Center to Install DRX-1 Detectors in Existing x-ray Rooms and Mobile Imaging Systems, and as Part of Fully Automated DR Suites

Heartland Regional Medical Center of St. Joseph, Mo., is converting general radiology exam rooms as well as existing mobile x-ray imaging systems from CR to DR with the purchase of six CARESTREAM DRX-1 Systems, five CARESTREAM DRX-Mobile Retrofit Kits and two CARESTREAM DRX-Evolution systems.

The wireless, cassette-size DRX-1 detector allows facilities to quickly and cost effectively convert to digital radiography. “Carestream Health’s family of products based on the DRX-1 detector equips us to gain higher quality and faster image access at a very reasonable price. It will also enable us to offer better care, especially for patients in our emergency room, surgical suite and ICU units,” said Larry Kirschner, Heartland Medical Center’s Director of Radiology. The 361-bed medical center serves a multi-state area and is part of Heartland Health, an integrated health delivery system.

After installation, DRX-1 detectors will be used in existing mobile x-ray systems that serve ER and OR suites and the main radiology department. DRX-1 detectors also will provide image capture for general radiology rooms and a new fluoroscopy room.

The hospital will install a DRX-Evolution system with two detectors in its 45-room ER. “We expect the fully automated DRX-Evolution system to provide greatly improved productivity in this high-volume, time-sensitive environment,” Kirschner said. A second DRX-Evolution will be installed in one of Heartland Health’s busy outpatient imaging centers.

Heartland Regional Medical Center and its affiliated facilities serve a 21-county area of northwest Missouri, northeast Kansas and southeast Nebraska. The health system has earned numerous awards for its excellence in patient care including a 2009 Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award.

Carestream Health markets three digital radiography systems based on its wireless, cassette-size DRX-1 detector. The CARESTREAM DRX-1 system enables healthcare providers to quickly and affordably upgrade existing analog x-ray rooms from CR or film to DR. The same detector is also used in the company’s CARESTREAM DRX-Evolution, an integrated, automated digital radiography suite that performs a wide variety of general radiology and trauma exams. A retrofit kit enables selected mobile x-ray systems to use a DRX-detector, which enables immediate image viewing and wireless transmission to desired destinations.
