EXAM-PACS: The Choice for Enterprise-Wide, Specialty Specific Image Management for All Departments
Expanding its path to enterprise-wide, specialty specific management of medical imaging and related data, CoActiv introduces EXAM-PACS support for a range of emerging imaging modalities and new imaging–related workflow at the Annual Meeting of the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA). Debuting at RSNA 2008 will be EXAM-PACS support for importing, viewing and archiving MIMVista Radiology/Nuclear Medicine files for such fusion imaging files as PET/CT. Recognizing the importance of communications with referring physicians, these files also may easily be shared with referring physicians. EXAM-PACS now also offers similar support for MedImage Nuclear Medicine/Radiology fusion images. Complementing this, the advanced PACS will now also integrate with the peerVue applications to enable a site to meet accreditation and regulatory requirements, such as ACR-Required Peer Review and JCAHO Critical Test Results Management. The technology also streamlines presenting cases for rounds, conferences and other educational or research related activities.
Full integration with Dragon Naturally Speaking delivering imbedded voice recognition rounds out the new features. These new features join recent technology enhancements. Important among these are gamma imaging (BSGI) files generated by Dilon Technologies molecular breast imaging gamma cameras and other similar devices. BSGI utilizes specialized breast imaging protocols and new high-resolution nuclear medicine (NM) gamma cameras specifically engineered for breast applications to visualize disease through the functional uptake of a NM radiotracer. Integration and proper display of NM files has traditionally been a significant challenge for most PACS vendors. Images can be displayed side by side with digital mammography, breast ultrasound and breast MRI images on the same workstation. At RSNA 2008, CoActiv also will showcase its new EXAM-RT Archive, a digital viewing, archiving and retrieval platform for a full range of radiation therapy-related information. Supporting all seven DICOM-RT extensions, the application saves CT images, cone beam images, CMS radiation therapy plans and DICOM-RT data to a single integrated patient file for streamlined access and management. This HIPAA-compliant RT data can share the same archive and patient demographic information as a radiology PACS and other healthcare IT systems, minimizing system costs as well as support and maintenance expense. CoActiv EXAM-RT already has been validated in cancer centers for IMPAC radiation oncology systems.
These new features complement CoActiv ’s already robust functionalities for a full range of highly specialized imaging data, from cardiology and orthopedics to 3D imaging. In cardiology, CoActiv ’s EXAM-PACS delivers powerful and user-friendly workflow that combines local and remote viewing with management, distribution and archiving of the complete spectrum of cardiac studies, including nuclear cardiology, echo cardiology, MRI, CT and more. EXAM-PACS fully integrates this advanced digital cardiovascular workflow with radiology as well as additional specialized imaging modalities. In orthopedics, CoActiv EXAM-PACS provides such specialty-specific tools as distance, angle and Cobb angle measurements as well as spine labeling. Combined with advanced pre-operative prosthetic templating planning from CoActiv ’s partner OrthoView, EXAM-PACS provides an all-encompassing, specialized orthopedic solution. Complementing this is CoActiv EXAM-3D image processing, which delivers today’s advanced image reformations in a high-performance, easy-to-use 3D application that comes as a standard feature in EXAM-PACS. EXAM-3D provides all of today’s advanced imaging protocols that support exam interpretation by not only general radiologists but also sub-specialists, neurosurgeons, cardiologists and more. Physicians who want to combine this advanced image management with fully integrated medical image reporting can take advantage of CoActiv EXAM-RIS a full-featured radiology scheduling, reporting and billing module that can be customized to a site’s needs.
