CoActiv Introduces EXAM-PACS platform for Every Preference at RSNA 2009

Company News - CoActiv Medical

CoActiv Medical introduces an EXAM-PACS platform for every user preference at RSNA 2009--including Windows 7, Mac OS X with the current OsiriX DICOM viewer and the new OsiriX viewer with FDA clearance.

Highlighted by a revolutionary new touch-screen viewing system for the popular Apple iPhone, CoActiv Medical (Booth 7544) introduces an EXAM-PACS platform for every user preference at RSNA 2009 --including Windows 7, Mac OS X with the current OsiriX DICOM viewer and the new OsiriX viewer with FDA clearance.

“As physicians become increasingly mobile throughout the medical environment and work in a wide range of settings beyond their offices and computers, immediate, reliable image access is imperative,” comments Ed Heere, President and CEO of CoActiv Medical. “What better way to provide this than enabling physicians to access imaging workflow right on their iPhones.”

To provide its exciting new image display platform, CoActiv Medical EXAM-PACS introduces bi-directional integration with the award-winning OsiriX Mobile viewer, which runs on the iPhone itself. With EXAM-PACS’ unique server level integration, no special software is required other than the OsiriX viewer running on the phone.

“It’s simple. Users download the application to their device, and they can begin viewing images immediately,” said Heere. “We adopted this approach because OsiriX has long been the most widely used and top performing Mac OS X DICOM viewer, and its success speaks for itself. What’s more, the application downloads in minutes and is available from Apple for just a nominal charge. While others may claim to have iPhone viewing capabilities for their PACS products “in development”, CoActiv Medical has a full featured solution available TODAY!”

iPhone users connect via WIFI to the CoActiv Medical EXAM-PACS server and can search for exams by patient name, accession number, modality and much more. Exams download to their device instantly and securely using DICOM Query/Retrieve. And, by utilizing a special send command, EXAM-PACS PC users also can instantly push exams to a registered user’s iPhone. Once displayed, images can be analyzed on the touch screen using a full range of traditional PACS tools, including scroll, pan, zoom and window & level and measurement functions. All image manipulations and annotations may be saved locally on the device as JPG files and forwarded to anyone, anywhere in the world using either messaging or regular email. An option to remove patient identification ensures these transmissions are in full HIPAA compliance.

New EXAM-PACS bi-directional support for OsiriX Mobile is included free of charge in all current CoActiv EXAM-PACS Server releases. Like all EXAM-PACS enhancements, it is supplied as a complimentary upgrade to existing users. The OsiriX iPhone viewer can be downloaded for $19.99 from the iTunes application store.

Extending Apple Mac support beyond a mobile environment, CoActiv Medical also introduces bi-directional support for the full OsiriX DICOM viewer, enabling any user of Mac OS X or higher to view all EXAM-PACS images on their Mac computer of choice. To access images for reference purposes, users simply download the free OsiriX viewer (V3.6.1 or later) from the OsiriX website and connect to an OsiriX Server running on a Mac on their network or directly to their CoActiv Medical EXAM-PACS server.

For dedicated Mac users who want diagnostic interpretation capabilities, the new FDA-cleared OsiriX KDS is available for purchase from Kanteron Systems. A versatile, highly advanced viewer, the FDAapproved OsiriX KDS includes all of the functionalities of the most advanced PC-based DICOM viewer with such added features as 3D, 4D and 5D reconstruction and viewing as well as fusion imaging. Data may be stored and read in a variety of additional formats such as JPG, PDF and more.

As Windows 7 goes mainstream, CoActiv Medical also announces support for this important new operating environment, as well as key features designed to exploit its benefits. “This new, more stable, 64-bit Microsoft operating system can efficiently manage larger amounts of memory than ever before and that means big benefits for today’s busy radiologists and referring physicians,” comments Heere. “Users can now have numerous data-intensive exams open at one time to compare images and work in the most
efficient manner possible.”

At RSNA 2009, CoActiv is also demonstrating EXAM-PACS on new touchscreen, all-in-one computers that take advantage of the exciting new Touch capabilities built into Windows 7.

Visitors to the CoActiv Medical RSNA booth can scroll through a CT series, zoom and window & level all at the touch of a finger on the large screen. Moving a series on the EXAM-PACS viewer is accomplished with a finger swipe across the screen, while switching from one exam to another is another mere finger touch. “Whatever is new, functional and desirable in PACS is always at CoActiv Medical first,” said Heere.

Moreover, Heere points out that as referring physicians and others upgrade their computers, they will be thrust into a Windows 7 environment. “If you want to cater to your referrers,” he says, “You need to be compatible to the software they use. That’s why CoActiv Medical is among the first to introduce this new compatibility.”

CoActiv Medical has always been committed to delivering a PACS that meets the full range of its users needs. “Now we truly have EXAM-PACS platform for every preference,” he says. “Whatever you ask for, we’ve got it now—or we soon will. That’s our philosophy.”
