Digital archive and retrieval platform
Ridgefield, Conn.-based CoActiv Medical Business Solutions® recently introduced the Exam-RT™ Archive, a digital viewing, archiving, and retrieval platform for a full range of radiation therapy-related data, including CT images, cone-beam images, Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services radiation therapy plans, and DICOM-RT data files. The new functionality supports all seven DICOM - RT extensions and, for the first time, enables digital storage in a single, unified patient information file.
“Without a comprehensive storage solution, radiation therapy departments historically have been saving this data in different locations and formats, with no integrated plan, and often using less-than-optimal and even non-HIPAA-compliant technology,” says Ed Heere, president and CEO of CoActiv. “Tracking and assembling this patient data has been inefficient and has left significant potential for data loss or error.”
With CoActiv’s new Exam - RT solution, RT facilities finally have a means of storing all of their data in its native formats in a single comprehensive, redundant, and HIPAA-compliant digital archive. Moreover, data can share the same archive and patient demographic information as a radiology PACS, as well as other healthcare IT systems, minimizing system cost and support or maintenance expenses.
Exam-RT can complement an existing Exam-PACS® installation or be implemented independently using dedicated archiving hardware. Exam-RT already has been validated in cancer centers for IMPAC radiation oncology systems incorporating CT DICOM images, cone-beam DICOM images and data, and complete DICOM-RT data object treatment plans.
Sites utilizing the new CoActiv Exam-RT solution also can take advantage of CoActiv’s Exam-Vault® Quad-Redundant Archiving® for storing RT data. Exam-Vault saves all information in four geographically distinct locations for advanced disaster recovery and business continuity. It is typically configured to archive recent images and data onsite for 12 to 24 months, enabling fast online accessibility.
As data is stored onsite, it is also immediately transmitted to two offsite CoActiv Tier-IV archiving centers, where it is stored online on multi-terabyte redundant array of independent disks. The advanced, CoActiv-managed archiving system shifts the burden of all maintenance to CoActiv experts and eliminates issues of technological obsolescence.
“As an advanced, open solution, CoActiv Exam-RT Archive is compatible with all major RT hardware and IT systems,” says Heere. “We can quickly and easily validate it for any potential client on their existing RT solutions.”
Heere also points out that Exam-RT Archive complements Exam-PACS, the comprehensive CoActiv digital image management and archiving product line, which already supports a full range of modalities and specialties, from standard X-ray and CT to cardiology, orthopedics, and more. CoActiv also offers advanced functionalities, such as built-in Exam-3D® image processing and Exam-RIS™, an optional integrated radiology information system.
“With new Exam-RT Archive, CoActiv offers the most complete digital medical image and information management system on the market today,” Heere says. “It’s a single-vendor solution that can meet a full range of needs.”
