AIIMS Introduces Mobile CT Scan for India

Radiology News - Computed Tomography (CT)

CT ScanThe All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) has introduced a mobile CT ( computed tomography ) scan machine for the first time in India - it comes to patient's bedside.

Patients who have to be taken to the trauma centre with head injuries, which require daily scans, can now heave a sigh of relief.

Patients in the AIIMS trauma ward had to be taken to the CT scan room in a precarious condition, which created complications and led to death in some cases.

“With this new machine, we can scan a patient next to his bed. A patient who is in a serious condition is connected to a ventilator, a pipe supplying him blood, and in some cases a food-pipe. All this has to be removed when he is taken for a scan. In this procedure, complications are likely,” said MC Misra, chief, AIIMS trauma centre.

He added that the machine, valued at Rs2 crore, will bring relief to patients who are critical but require CT scans every day.
