ECRI Web Conference on Radiation Therapy Errors

Radiology News - Computed Tomography (CT)

ctECRI Institute will organise a web Conference on “Radiation Therapy Errors: Protecting Patients from Harm,” on May 19, 2010, from 1 to 2:30 p.m. ET. The event will shed it's light on the initiatives taken by hospitals in case of radiation overexposure issues.

The hospitals has faced severe criticism on their early adoption of innovative radiation therapy technology, ill-fitting regulatory oversight, and mis-informing of overexposure incidents.

The potential for serious injuries from medical radiation require proactive measures to address these risks. The Hospital authorities should be well equipped to answer questions from concerned patients and families and physicians need clear guidance on steps they can take to properly protect patients from future harm.

Other aspects to be covered in the web conference are as follows:

  • Utilisation of “safety first” checklists, that can help identify errors and curb risks
  • Levels of safety practices, that may have its maximum impact on radiation therapy quality and safety.
  • Obstacles in the way of Standard safety practices.
  • The Speakers to be included in the conference are:
  • James P. Keller, Jr., MS, Moderator, Vice President, Health Technology Evaluation and Safety, ECRI Institute
  • Rohit Inamdar, Sr. Associate, Applied Solutions Group, ECRI Institute
  • Lawrence T. Dauer, PhD, CHP, Radiation Safety Manager, Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center
  • Curtis T. Miyamoto, MD, Professor and Chairperson, Department of Radiation Oncology, Temple University Hospital
