New CT Suite Accomplished at Campbellford Memorial Hospital
| Radiology News - Computed Tomography (CT) |
Campbellford Memorial Hospital is one step closer to a new CT scan machine with the completion of its suite.
“It’s absolutely fantastic,” president Kelly Isfan said of the suite during a board member tour on Nov. 5.
“It’s like you’re in a new hospital, everything looks so new and fresh.”
The suite includes a patient prep area with washroom and change room, a lead-lined room for the CT machine, and a separate viewing room with leaded glass where technicians can monitor results.
The hospital’s X-ray technicians have all undergone training for the new machine, with two technicians selected as so-called “super-users,” who will attend a Phillips training centre in Cleveland and then share that training with their colleagues.
In addition to improved service for patients, who were previously transported to Peterborough or other nearby hospitals for CT scans, Ms. Isfan estimated the new machine will have a “huge” impact on the hospital’s nursing hours, once staff no longer has to accompany patient transfers. In addition, the hospital was charged $300 to $400 every time they used another facility’s CT service, so some budget relief is expected.
The CT machine is scheduled to be delivered on Jan. 15, and is expected to go live and begin serving patients on Jan. 19.
