PMCH: CT Scan Machine Lying Defunct
| Radiology News - Computed Tomography (CT) |
Patna Medical College and Hospital's CT Scan machine has been lying defunct for the last one month causing much hardship to patients, particularly those who cannot afford to undergo CT scans at private centres.
This despite the fact that the state government had retierated its promise of provide better health care to the people during the ongoing Budget session of the state Assembly.
As per hospital sources, over 20 patients turn up at PMCH every day for CT scan. With the machine lying defunct, the patients either return home without availing the service or visit private CT scan centres where they have to cough up exorbitant charges. The sources further said the cost of a CT scan in PMCH is Rs 800 per patient.
PMCH deputy superintendent R K Singh said, “While the existing CT scan machine will be repaired, installation of a new one under the public- private partnership (PPP) is also on the cards.” He was hopeful that the existing machine would be repaired and be of use for patients in about a month.
Health minister Nand Kishore Yadav told TOI that as the installed machine is quite old and outdated, procurement of the faulty parts has proved to be a stupendous task. The minister said that an agreement has been reached with another company and soon the CT scan services would be resumed.
