Healthcare Company News DR Systems, Inc. DR Systems Exhibits Z-Series, Zero Download WebPACS

DR Systems Exhibits Z-Series, Zero Download WebPACS

Company News - DR Systems, Inc.

DR SystemsDR Systems, one of the most respected names in healthcare information systems, will be exhibiting its Unity Z-Series, zero-download technology at SIIM 2010.

With Z-Series, referring physicians with Web access no longer have to download an application or ActiveX controls before viewing imaging exams and reports or performing ordering and scheduling.

Live demonstrations of both the Unity Z-Series WebPACS and eMix can be seen in the DR Systems booth at the annual meeting of the Society for Imaging Informatics in Medicine (SIIM), June 3-5 at the Minneapolis Convention Center in Minneapolis. The DR Systems booth is #119.

The Z-Series includes two products: Zero Download Ambassador (ZDA) for clinical review and Zero Download Scheduler (ZDS) for scheduling and ordering exams. ZDS is currently available in Unity Release 8. ZDA will be available in the pending Unity Release 9.

“DR Systems is an industry leader in Web-based enterprise imaging solutions and the Z-Series is another example of that,” said Richard Porritt, the company’s President and CEO. “With Z-series, a facility’s physician and clinical personnel can access imaging reports or associated documents and audio from any Web-connect PC without downloading a Web-client. Z-series can deliver exam access to your HIS, EMR, or PHR, via a simple hyperlink, and it is secure and confidential.  Providers have long wished for this sort of interoperability and now they have it.”

Z-Series has been designed to deliver a uniquely high level of functionality in a zero-download, Web-based environment. Both ZDA and ZDS eliminate the need for IT support and the need to download applets at different locations -- a benefit for referring physicians and specialists who work in various, disparate IT environments. Both systems also create a more efficient workflow for doctors.

Advantages of ZDA include:

  • Access via Windows, Linux or Mac OS;
  • Quick, easy, secure access to patient image exams from other hospitals;
  • Ability to listen to audio reports and view text reports.

The RIS-based ZDS enables physicians to order or schedule future exams from remote locations quickly while the patient is still in their office. Alternatively, physicians can use the ZDS to provide an imaging facility with the patient’s order information so the facility can contact the patient to schedule an exam.

Among other benefits:

  • The ZDS checks availability across multiple sites, facilities, and resources to offer the next available appointments.
  • Scheduling notes and exam preparation information guide the scheduler in selecting the proper procedure and appointment time.
  • Insurance authorization tools enable recording and tracking of insurance authorization/pre-certification numbers.
  • Optional medical necessity checking for the local Medicare region helps insure accurate coding for optimum reimbursement.

The Z-Series works independently of the computer operating system. It also works with the most widely adopted Web browsers.
At SIIM10, DR Systems will also be exhibiting e-Mix, its new low-cost, cloud-computing service. eMix, which stands for Electronic Medical Information Exchange, enables images and reports to be easily and securely pushed to institutions, patients, physicians and EMRs via the Internet. This interoperable, vender-neutral technology eliminates the need for the provider facility to burn CDs, print films, or fax reports. Like the Z-Series, it will also help facilitate the trend toward a universal EMR.
