DR Systems PACS Contracts Worth $1.5 Million
| Company News - DR Systems, Inc. |
DR Systems, Inc. makers of the Unity RIS/PACS, today announced four new contracts with healthcare facilities totaling approximately $1.53 million. The largest contract was for more than $747,000, with the smallest at about $116,000. The four facilities are:
- Peninsula Imaging, L.L.C.
- Yankton Medical Clinic, P.C.
- Bath Community Hospital
- Barrow Neurosurgical Associates
“Had these new customers selected a PACS from a different company, they would probably have to maintain five or more different systems and interfaces and deal with five different vendors,” said Rick Porritt, President and CEO of DR Systems.
“In addition to the complexities of managing all that, they would also have a PACS that cost more and did less than the one they got from DR Systems,” Porritt said. “We provided them one unified system that will be a lasting solution -- while raising their profitability and simplifying their tech support.”
There are several notable aspects to the new contracts:
Interoperability with McKesson HIS. At Peninsula Imaging, the new PACS will be interfaced with a McKesson hospital information system (HIS). DR Systems’ integrated approach to scheduling, workflow, reporting, and billing is considered an advantage in making the imaging center more competitive in its local market.
Improved stroke treatment for remote, rural residents. The DR Systems PACS at Bath Community Hospital will enable this small hospital to have local radiological workflow even as most of its radiological studies are read at the University of Virginia (UVA) Medical Center, in Charlottesville. Implementation of the PACS will also enable Bath to more easily share images and reports with UVA and other regional partners. In particular, the PACS will improve Bath’s acute stroke response by giving Bath County residents reliable and timely access to stroke treatment expertise across the Central Shenandoah Valley.
About the Healthcare Facilities
Peninsula Imaging, L.L.C. (Salisbury, Md.) provides full diagnostic and therapeutic x-ray services, ultrasound, and nuclear medicine/PET imaging. For women, the center offers a full range of progressive services, including screening mammograms, ultrasonography, and therapeutic treatment.
Yankton Medical Clinic, P.C. (Yankton, S.D.) encompasses, in addition to diagnostic imaging, an allergy clinic, an ambulatory surgery center, chemo- and IV infusion therapy, laboratory services, occupational medicine, and home care. Its mammography services included computer-aided detection.
Bath Community Hospital (Hot Springs, Va.), a 25-bed facility, is located in a remote area of western Virginia. As a designated Critical Access Hospital, it provides frontline medical services for the 4,800 residents of Bath County.
Barrow Neurosurgical Associates (Phoenix, Ariz.) serves patients from all over the country – and indeed the world – with its expertise in difficult brain and spine cases. Among many innovations by its medical staff, Barrow surgeons and scientists helped pioneer the hypothermic circulatory arrest, a surgery now used worldwide in treating complex aneurysms. This procedure, along with new skull base approaches, allows neurosurgeons to repair blood vessels in the brain with minimal risk of hemorrhage.
