DR Systems will be exhibiting its Release 8.1 software for the company's Unity™ RIS/PACS platform at RSNA 2007. Among other innovations, Release 8.1 features several new capabilities that enhance mammography viewing, reporting, and workflow.
DR Systems, the leading independent provider of RIS/PACS solutions, will be at Booth 2165 in the South Building, Hall A at McCormick Place in Chicago from Sunday, November 25 to Thursday, November 29.
The prominent KLAS® Enterprises, LLC, research and consulting firm honored DR Systems as the best vendor across all healthcare informatics categories covered in 2006. KLAS® also recently named DR Systems the “PACS Category Leader” in its Top 20 Mid-Year Report for 2007.
New mammography-related capabilities in Release 8.1 include:
• Mammography Tracking – tracks breast imaging outcomes and follow-up tasks
• Mammography Reading Tools - automatically sorts comparison exams per user preference with multi-compare options, additional mammography image hanging options
• Mammography CAD – supports display of CAD (computer aided detection) markers overlaid on top of the digital mammography image
• Mammography Reporting – supports BI-RADS findings and recommendations.
These new mammography features in Release 8.1 are combined into the easy-to-learn and easy-to-use Unity RIS/PACS graphic user interface. These PACS clinical applications utilize the same database that simplifies IT support.
General availability of DR Systems Unity RIS/PACS Release 8.1 will be November 2007.
Other new DR Systems Unity RIS/PACS capabilities include:
• Patient Tracking – monitors patient status and location from arrival to check out
• Patient Link – merges or links related patient records across multiple databases
• Patient Registration – provides a comprehensive, cumulative, online patient profile including pre-registration preparations; demographics, clinical history, and insurance information
• Smart Forms – associates a patient exam with appropriate form templates
• Film Tracking – enables management of patients' prior, film-based records and external films
• Notes/Tasks – enables the creator of notes and tasks to facilitate workflow-tracking and priority-setting
• Sentinel – performs facility-wide monitoring including exam and report statistics, workstation configuration, and application status
Several new system-wide capabilities are included in Release 8.1, as well. Among these, the software now supports the National Provider ID (NPI). Also, patient exams can be made anonymous so they can be used for training, education, publications, and presentations. Finally, Release 8.1 includes an interface to an available Enterprise Master Patient Index (EMPI) solution that enables DR Systems RIS customers to query and provide updates to their corporate EMPI provider.
Release 8.1 also features enhancements to the DR Scheduler, RIS, Dominator Diagnostic Reading Workstation, Instant Reporter, Management Reports, and Guardian Archive.
Release 8.1 continues DR System’s tradition of offering multiple tools and applications in one completely integrated system.
The federal Deficit Reduction Act (DRA) has accelerated a trend toward lower reimbursements for healthcare procedures, even as costs, healthcare usage, and competition for hospitals and imaging centers continue to increase. These conditions compel facilities to cut costs and increase capacity through more efficient IT.
But healthcare facilities have sometimes failed to achieve the savings they expected – in large part because they often work with half -dozen or more vendors to accomplish tasks such as scheduling, PACS, transcription, dictation, voice recognition, 3-D processing, and management reporting.
The resulting technology tangle requires multiple service contracts and expensive, complicated interfacing that does not always function as hoped, among other problems.
DR Systems offers an antidote with its Unity RIS/PACS, a comprehensive, tightly integrated IT solution that covers the entire workflow process of medical imaging.
