A Specialist asks for Help Evaluating Online Backup Services

Healthcare Blogs - EMR & EHR Blogs

The following question was received from a colleague in Ontario regarding online backup solutions:

"I am a specialist in Ontario and considering switching from paper to an EMR. I have a question about online backup such as i365, Carbonite, etc.? Do you have a similar evaluation or rating system for online-backup solutions as you do for EMR's?"
Thanks, Dan C

Dan, there is no specific section on CanadianEMR discussing online backup services. The cost of storage and the ability and the ease of backing up data online have made these services very attractive.

I have additional questions for readers of the blog.

  • Can users of online backup solutions share their experiences regarding the reliability of these services?
  • Is the online backup used as a standalone system or as part of your EMR package?
  • Has anyone had to restore a database from an online backup? Did it work as advertised?
