Technology for Doctors: Doctor Calls for Creation of Objective EMR Committee
| Healthcare Blogs - EMR & EHR Blogs |
How should Canada's multiple EMR programs get the guidance needed at a sufficiently focused level to solve the complex issues associated with uptake an use of EMRs? One of the solutions is to have an on-the-ground team of clinical experts as problem solvers. As reported in Technology for Doctors:
A BC-based doctor who’s participated in several Canada Health Infoway projects is calling for the creation of a cross-disciplinary team of experts to provide objective views about EMR development. In an e-mail sent to dozens of leaders at the CMA, Infoway, universities and the private sector, Dr. Ray Simkus pointed out that countries with high EMR uptake set up these committees when they encountered problems with uncoordinated, ad-hoc EMR development. Canada’s approach leaves both vendors and doctors stranded without direction, says Simkus. “I have seen one EMR vendor after another get input from a few well meaning but uninformed physicians. The problem is that these involvements have always been short term, no training was provided for the participants and typically a lot of things were ‘out of scope’.
