EMR White paper implements an EHR Information Infrastructure

White paper implements an EHR Information Infrastructure

Healthcare in the United States is at the beginning of a technology revolution as previously paper-based processes move online.

The challenge for now is to find a foundation of technologies that will enable the physician, hospital, or Integrated Delivery Network, to build a complete solution that enables the future. The foundation is likely a clinical information management tool that serves as the connecting point or collection device for all of the technology deployed within the healthcare delivery marketplace.

Today, we call this technology Electronic Medical Records ( EMR ) and Electronic Health Records (EHR). This repository of information will enable the care provider access to information that flows into,or out of, a community. Healthcare end users need to ask themselves whether all of this patient information could reside in one system.

So, where does a healthcare organization begin? First and foremost, healthcare organizations must become aware and educated on the new compliance initiatives that affect the deployment of EMRs and EHRs. This paper will cover the essential elements. There are also numerous professional conferences and organizations with updated information on this subject including: HIMSS, TEPR and TETHIC.
