NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital Uses Eclipsys' Remote Hosting Services

Company News - Eclipsys Corporation

Eclipsys Corporation announced NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital migrated a portion of its enterprise-wide information technology (IT) server processing and storage infrastructure to Eclipsys' Remote Hosting Services.

Eclipsys Corporation (NASDAQ:ECLP), The Outcomes Company, announced that NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital (NewYork-Presbyterian), one of the nation's largest not-for-profit, non-sectarian hospitals, has successfully migrated a significant portion of its enterprise-wide information technology (IT) server processing and storage infrastructure to Eclipsys' Remote Hosting Services. Coinciding with the migration of mission-critical applications to the Eclipsys Technology Solutions Center in New Jersey, NewYork-Presbyterian also upgraded to the latest version of the Sunrise Clinical Manager suite of solutions in use at the Hospital's five major medical centers.

"Electing to have a portion of our technology infrastructure hosted offsite is cost effective and removes the burden of day-to-day maintenance. This allows us to focus on making improvements to applications that help our clinicians deliver high quality patient care," said Aurelia G. Boyer, senior vice president and chief information officer, NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital. "Eclipsys has made this migration seamless and cost-effective."

High Level of System Availability and Predictive Expenditures
By opting to use Eclipsys' Remote Hosting Services applications for systems formerly housed within the Hospital, NewYork Presbyterian also gains a level of system availability backed by the source of its software, along with monitoring, reporting, disaster recovery and response-time warranties for a predictable monthly service fee Remote hosting is intended to reduce IT infrastructure expenditures and open up valuable floor space currently occupied by hardware devoted to Eclipsys within the Hospital's internal data center.

NewYork-Presbyterian joins a growing number of hospitals that have elected to outsource the hosting of a portion of their IT infrastructure to Eclipsys. Currently 40 percent of the Eclipsys' U.S.-based clients rely upon its world-class, ISO 9001:2000-certified, 24/7 data center to provide mission critical application performance, customer support, security and disaster recovery. With Eclipsys Remote Hosting Services, clients can offload all or part of their server processing and storage infrastructure to Eclipsys, which provides access to powerful CPU processing, fast storage and dedicated point-to-point communications.

"In the rapidly changing healthcare technology market, maintaining an up-to-date IT infrastructure is difficult on a day-to-day basis, let alone when a hospital or health system endeavors to enhance current system functionality," said John McAuley, Eclipsys' senior vice president, Outsourcing and Support. "The great challenge in finding experienced and knowledgeable IT resources to assure system availability makes Eclipsys remote hosting services an attractive option. We provide the experience and scale to help our clients accelerate the value from their investment in technology with a predictable price and a track record of positive outcomes."

Eclipsys Corporation, an industry leader in physician adoption of technology solutions and measurable outcomes, offers a comprehensive suite of clinical, financial and performance-improvement enterprise software to coordinate care delivery between the inpatient and outpatient environments. Through its award-winning community health information solutions designed for physician practices, the company supports health systems in better connecting with physicians, and physicians with their patients.

"President Obama's support of the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health (HITECH) Act will help stimulate widespread EHR adoption by 2014 and encourage healthcare organizations to leverage technologies to securely distribute, access and share patient information with all stakeholders to improve clinical workflow, care coordination, and reduce costs," explained Kipp Lassetter, MD, CEO of Medicity. "To achieve that goal, it's critical that these heterogeneous systems seamlessly interoperate to provide physicians with easy access to the essential clinical data needed to deliver high-quality, cost-effective healthcare."

According to Dan Soule, Eclipsys' vice president of Interoperability and Connectivity Solutions–Government Affairs, "The agreement with Medicity will support our ongoing healthcare enterprise community strategy, which builds on our company's 30 years of experience in helping organizations achieve outcomes with electronic health records and advanced clinical systems. After thoroughly evaluating competing vendors, we believe Medicity best complements Eclipsys' architecture and will greatly serve in leveraging our ongoing efforts to help our clients to meet the 'meaningful use' stipulation necessary to receive Federal financial incentive. Eclipsys and Medicity will develop pre-built interfaces to Eclipsys solutions for rapid implementation and position providers toward the loosely-based preliminary definition of 'meaningful use.' We look forward to working together with Medicity to deploy a standards-based, interoperable platform and achieving proven results with leading hospitals, physician practices and Health Information Exchanges (HIEs)."

Medicity serves more than 700 hospitals and health systems, leading HIEs, and thousands of physician practices. In partnership with its clients, Medicity has delivered integration with more than 50 unique electronic medical record applications and more than 150 healthcare information system (HIS) applications. Every day, hundreds of thousands of physicians and other clinical and administrative users rely on Medicity solutions to deliver better patient care, increase efficiency, enhance revenue, strengthen their competitive position and reduce costs.

Added Lassetter, "The Medicity and Eclipsys partnership is a win-win that empowers us to deliver a free-flow of clinical information to the appropriate stakeholders involved in providing patient-centered care throughout the community. We are delighted that our proven solutions will facilitate Eclipsys' strategic goals and strengthen their client relationships. We are confident that Eclipsys' market position and extensive footprint will further accelerate the adoption of EHRs."
