FUJIFILM Declares Medical Informatics Division; RSNA

Company News - FUJIFILM Medical Systems USA, Inc.

FUJIFILM Medical Systems USA announced at the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA 2009) annual meeting, the formation of its Medical Informatics Division.

Formerly known as Networks Systems, this new group will integrate all functions associated with the company's informatics offering and creates a platform for future growth.

Several organizational changes are part of this restructuring, which integrates the former Empiric and ProSolv Cardiovascular divisions into a single organization. Robert Cooke will have the role of Vice President and General Manager, Medical Informatics USA; Cooke will head all business and customer facing functions of the division. Aaron Waitz, formerly President and CEO of ProSolv Cardiovascular, has assumed the role of Vice President, Product Development, Medical Informatics Global, will manage all aspects of product development for the integrated Medical Informatics portfolio.

"The establishment of the Medical Informatics business unit reflects FUJIFILM Medical Systems 's vision to integrate medical information into a common platform capable of positively impacting the entire care cycle from prevention to treatment," says Robert Cooke, Vice President and General Manager, Medical Informatics USA. "Today, we have been successful with the imaging domains we serve through our integrated Synapse offering across the disciplines of radiology and cardiovascular imaging and in the future our goal is to extend this coverage into additional healthcare domains."

Under Medical Informatics, the Synapse product portfolio provides a completely integrated solution for PACS, RIS cardiovascular imaging, and women's health imaging. Integrated components of the Synapse family of products are Virtualization, Application Hosting, Database and Mobile application solutions - all being exhibited at this week's meeting.

Virtualization: Eliminates single points of failure and further maximizes uptime beyond traditional server architectures. Virtualization allows facilities to leverage the significant business benefits of an optimized IT environment that can dynamically support changing business needs while ensuring flexibility and efficient utilization of hardware resources. FUJIFILM is already an experienced virtualization provider with dozens of fully-virtualized Synapse environments ( PACS, RIS, Cardiovascular) successfully implemented across the U.S.

Application Hosting: FUJIFILM Medical Systems USA hosts Synapse applications at its state-of-the-art datacenter in Denver, CO. The Center provides data archiving and protects images and other important patient information.

Database: FUJIFILM uses a single database provider -- Oracle -- to allow all of the company's application to seamlessly share clinical information.

Mobile application:
FUJIFILM Medical Systems USA will showcase a mobile application works-in-progress, designed to provide an alternate means to access data by introducing a wireless application where clinicians can access their reports (and studies) from the mobile device.
