FUJIFILM Medical Adds FUJINON as Subsidiary

Diversifies Medical Product Line with Addition of Endoscopes to Portfolio
FUJIFILM Holdings America Corporation announced that FUJINON INC. will be restructured into two subsidiaries – one will report into FUJIFILM North America Corporation for the optical device business and the other into FUJIFILM Medical Systems U.S.A., Inc. for the endoscopy business. The FUJINON INC. Endoscopy Division creates and markets products that are a natural complement to the existing line of high quality diagnostic imaging systems produced by FUJIFILM Medical Systems U.S.A., Inc. The companies will be able to leverage their synergies for future growth and success.
“The realignment of FUJINON INC. supports Fujifilm’s overarching objective of strengthening our organization as a whole to better capitalize future growth opportunities,” said Naohiro Fujitani, president and CEO of FUJIFILM Medical Systems U.S.A., Inc. “By lending our experience and proven capabilities in diagnostic imaging to the field of endoscopy, we can further enhance and create FUJINON’s opportunities for success. As we look to expand our footprint in the medical arena and continually deliver more of the advanced solutions that the healthcare community needs, leveraging synergies such as these will be the key,” Mr. Fujitani explained.
Since 1974, FUJINON INC. has provided high quality, technologically advanced endoscopes to gastrointestinal endoscopists, pulmonologists, and surgeons. The company was the first in the industry to introduce Super CCD high definition imaging technology, the first to introduce unique, multi-band spectral imaging software, and the world’s first company to develop an endoscope system capable of therapeutic intervention in the entire small bowel, the Double Balloon Endoscopy System.
“With a stronger collaborative association with the Fujifilm medical organization, our endoscope business will continue to thrive and we expect to achieve an even stronger position in the marketplace here in the U.S.,” said Hank Hayashi, president and CEO, FUJINON INC.
The field of endoscopy, both flexible and surgical, is one of Fujifilm’s targeted growth business areas. As a leading provider in this market, FUJINON will expand its business by increasing product development in the flexible endoscopy markets and, through domestic collaboration, the planned introduction of its minimally-invasive surgical products. At the end of April, FUJIFILM Holdings Corporation announced a comprehensive, five-year, joint research agreement with Fox Chase Cancer Center, Philadelphia, Pa., further demonstrating the opportunities in this field.
The change in company alignment is part of a greater restructuring of the entire FUJINON INC. organization. Optics and lens assemblies provided to the broadcast, digital cinema and industrial markets, as well as binoculars and other customized precision optics produced by the company will now be managed as a separate business structure and a subsidiary of FUJIFILM North America Corporation.
