FiatLux Imaging , a company dedicated to providing a comprehensive internet-based service for the transport, review, analysis, storage and sharing of medical imaging data featuring real-time access on any computing device, announced that medical industry veteran Max Lyon has joined the company as Chief Executive Officer. Mr. Lyon has had a successful 25-year career in the medical technology field including experience in both the emerging medical imaging software and internet-based medical services fields. He has extensive CEO-level experience in raising equity funding, directing successful product development efforts, the international launch of new technology products and creating partnerships with major corporations, including GE Healthcare, Philips and Hologic.
Mr. Lyon has been CEO/President of six successful medical companies, five of which he co-founded, including BioControl Systems, Bainbridge Sciences (Bard Diagnostics), CG Therapeutics Adeona Pharmaceuticals, NexCura and Confirma. He co-founded and led the acquisition of Bainbridge Sciences by C.R. Bard (NYSE:BCR) and continued as the President of Bard Diagnostics, and a senior executive team member of C.R. Bard, for four years. He also served as Senior Vice President of Administration at Genetic Systems and was a co-founder and Director of Oncogen, a joint venture of Syntex Corporation and Genetic Systems. Genetic Systems and Oncogen were acquired by Bristol Myers for $300 million. While CEO of Confirma, Mr. Lyon led the development and international commercial launch of the market leading CADstream software-based service for cancer detection using magnetic resonance imaging ( MRI ). Most recently Mr. Lyon was CEO and President of Adeona Pharmaceuticals (AMEX:AEN) where he was responsible for launching the company's suite of diagnostic and therapeutic products for Alzheimer's disease.
"FiatLux Imaging has a tremendous opportunity to play a significant role in a major evolution currently taking place in medical imaging and in the entire medical field. Advances in internet and software technologies have fueled the need for broadly based and timely access to medical information, particularly medical imaging studies, and more intuitive image analysis tools, standardized viewing solutions and convenient transport and storage options. FiatLux Imaging has created an intuitive, accessible product and technology base to successfully provide this type of comprehensive service to the medical community," said Lyon.
The company's first product, Visualize FREE, is the only free advanced visualization software for CT and MRI medical imaging data that runs on virtually any modern Windows PC/laptop/notebook/tablet -- including Windows 7 - and is cleared by the FDA for clinical use.. Visualize FREE is a fully-featured 2D/3D visualization application for any healthcare professional needing an easy-to-use means of reformatting and viewing DICOM-compatible imaging data. Since Visualize FREE provides an advanced reader that can access imaging data from any Windows platform, it is ideal for surgical planning and patient education.
FiatLux Imaging has released this free version of Visualize to begin building a user community and to provide a standardized imaging reader that can be easily and widely used by non-radiologist physicians, patients and others while the company completes development of its comprehensive medical imaging service. . The company plans to gain valuable input from its user community that will help in the final design of its service. A number of features of the planned comprehensive service will remain free while others will be available for a fee.
FiatLux Imaging 's Visualize FREE is especially useful for specialists such as orthopedic surgeons, cardiologists and oncologists as well as primary care physicians, radiologists and radiologic technologists. Visualize FREE can deliver advanced visualization to any healthcare professional, not just the small number of radiologists who typically use expensive software on high-end workstations. CT and MRI scanners are generating huge amounts of data every day, yet the vast majority of that data is never seen outside of the radiology suite. If medical imaging studies were more widely available, the company believes that referring physicians could make better treatment decisions and perform more effective surgeries while patients could gain more insight into their medical conditions and treatment options. Medical students and residents will find Visualize FREE invaluable for studying anatomy, identifying pathology, and reviewing cases.
