GE healthcare announces centricity precision reporting for streamlined radiology diagnostic reporting
| Company News - GE Healthcare |
GE Healthcare introduced today Centricity Precision Reporting, an evolutionary solution that weds efficient workflow with a sophisticated speech understanding engine to capture patient data throughout the radiology reporting process. Embedded in Centricity RIS-IC, Precision Reporting uses advanced speech technology to better understand the natural flow of language for more accurate speech recognition without extensive training or workflow changes.
Precision Reporting delivers more accurate and complete reports in less time, while reducing errors. The technology creates structured documents that capture and store not just text, but discrete data elements based on the widely accepted clinical document architecture (CDA) standard.
"Centricity Precision Reporting represents a significant improvement in diagnostic reporting solutions,” says Ramin Khorasani, M.D., M.P.H., Vice Chair for quality, safety and IT in the Department of Radiology and Director of Center for Evidence-Based Imaging at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Harvard Medical School “by moving beyond traditional voice to text capabilities and into advanced speech understanding. By better understanding the context of the spoken word this technology enables the creation of discrete data elements from speech. This advance should lead to the development of a consistent, structured report that creates new opportunities for knowledge delivery at the point of care, improves the quality of the diagnostic report, and enhances data mining and communication with referring providers.”
“Centricity Precision Reporting is fundamentally different from other diagnostic reporting applications,” says Curt Langlotz, M.D., PhD, Professor and Vice Chair for Informatics in the Department of Radiology, University of Pennsylvania Health System. “Since it is embedded within the RIS, the radiologist can leverage native RIS data to improve reporting accuracy and save time within a single, streamlined workflow. With this solution, radiologists no longer need to wait for data to arrive from other systems or to navigate through cumbersome external systems just to dictate and finalize a report.”
At the heart of Precision Reporting is the Advanced Speech Understanding technology developed by M*Modal, a GE Healthcare partner. The system is designed to learn from experience. The more it is used, the more accurate it becomes. Precision Reporting is available in Centricity RIS-IC Version 10.6 and since the solution is embedded, it eliminates the need for maintenance and monitoring of costly and error-prone computer interfaces. The result is one workflow, one work list, and one application that can standardize templates and provide an efficient and consistent approach to reporting, regardless of the user.
"GE Healthcare is proud to announce Precision Reporting, an electronic reporting solution that improves workflow, adapts to each individual radiologist’s language and intent, and translates that knowledge into structured data,” says Don Woodlock, Vice President and Global General Manager, GE Healthcare IT Imaging Solutions Group. “Radiology is on the cusp of a new era, one in which evidence-based medicine will play a greater, more important role. Precision Reporting provides the data capture technology that radiology will use to drive this new age of healthcare.”
