Transcatheter Cardiovascular Therapeutics - Latest innovations designed to enhance visualization and improve workflow and dose efficiency, enabling interventional cardiologists to perform the most complex procedures with confidence.
Visitors to GE Healthcare ’s technological exhibition at this year’s Transcatheter Cardiovascular Therapeutics ( TCT 2010) symposium in Washington, D.C., Sept. 21-25, will see the company’s latest innovations designed to enhance visualization and improve workflow and dose efficiency, enabling interventional cardiologists to perform the most complex procedures with confidence. GE Healthcare will also debut its newest product line intended to put diverse procedures within the reach of customers that view cost-effectiveness as a key decision factor.
Healthymagination: Reducing Cost, Improving Quality and Access
GE’s “healthymagination” is about better health for more people. GE Healthcare has committed $6 billion to continuously develop innovations that help clinicians and healthcare providers deliver high-quality healthcare at lower cost to more people around the world. Healthymagination applies GE’s scale and innovation toward achieving sustainable health through its advanced technologies and research and development capabilities.
In line with the healthymagination strategy, at TCT, GE Healthcare will exemplify its most recent innovations in quality, cost, and access.
Quality: Proven Image Quality & Dose Efficiency
GE Healthcare’s Innova* X-ray family of products has been awarded healthymagination validation by the external independent experts of Oxford Analytica, UK. As a validated healthymagination innovation, evidence supporting Innova’s impact on GE’s healthymagination goals has been independently verified for its potential improvement in quality.
As interventional procedures grow in complexity and length, exposure to radiation is a growing concern for both physicians and patients. Innova has industry-leading detective quantum efficiency, resulting in excellent image quality at lower doses. Innova also has an X-ray dose personalization feature, which allows for increased flexibility.
Quality: Navigation with Confidence
Innova Vision Technologies for structural heart builds on proven image quality and dose efficiency to provide cardiologists the ability to navigate with confidence during complex structural heart procedures. The new application effectively fuses real-time 2D X-ray images and 3D cardiac models from multiple modalities such as Vascular X-ray, Computerized Tomography (CT) and Magnetic Resonance (MR), and incorporates image stabilization features to reduce image motion that occurs with patient movement or breathing.
With the increasing adult congenital heart disease population that numbers over 1 million in the United States, the volume of structural heart disease interventions has nearly doubled over the last eight years[1]. About 50,000 aortic valve replacement procedures are performed annually in the United States.[2] As cardiologists perform more complex procedures, the 3D anatomy of the heart is essential to plan or guide these procedures. The 3D anatomy of the aortic root can be obtained either from cardiac CT or from Innova 3D Cardiac rotational angiography right within the cath lab. Multimodality in-room 3D capabilities enable the navigation of 3D and CT volumes at tableside using a dedicated in-room 3D mouse. It also enables the bidirectional synchronization between the 3D/CT/MR volume and the Innova gantry to choose optimal working views.
Built upon Innova’s excellent 3D imaging platform and the Advantage Workstation* VolumeShare* multimodality, visualization and navigation workstation, Innova Vision Technologies provides 3D/CT/MR image overlay on fluoroscopy. GE’s dedicated Innova Vision Technologies provides uncompromised registration of the 3D overlay on the 2D fluoroscopy for structural heart procedures. The application is enhanced by image stabilization features such as ECG gated display and motion tracking. These tools help reduce image motion that occurs with patient movement or breathing. It is available on GE’s Innova 2100IQ cardiovascular X-ray system along with the complete family of single-plane Innova systems from GE Healthcare.
“At GE Healthcare, we continually strive to provide solutions to our customers’ challenges. Enhanced visualization, improved workflow, and dose efficiency – this is what the Innova X-ray family of products offers the physician,” said Reaz Rasul, General Manager of Global Interventional Cardiology at GE Healthcare.
Cost & Access: Versatility within the Reach of More People
Designed for productivity and versatility, the new GE Healthcare Innova 3100-IQ (Optima* Edition) is a reliable, cost-effective, high-performance interventional combo lab for treating a wide variety of patients. It addresses diverse interventional cardiology and interventional radiology needs with one system. Built on GE Healthcare's refined interventional X-ray system technology, the Optima Edition features proven image quality and industry-leading detective quantum efficiency to reduce dose exposure for patients and staff.
“Innova 3100-IQ (Optima Edition) will start a new era for interventional cardiology by enabling a larger set of institution types to offer interventional cardiology,” said Ed Wong, Global General Manager, Value Segment, for GE Healthcare’s Interventional business. “Keeping the challenges of our customers in mind, our engineers designed Optima Edition to allow for the performance of both interventional cardiology procedures as well as of those for interventional radiology without compromising image quality or dose efficiency.”
