The Michigan Minority Business Development Council (MMBDC) announced the winners of the 26th Annual Awards.
On September 29 at the Detroit Symphony Orchestra/Max Fisher Music Center, MMBDC held its 26th Annual Awards Ceremony. The theme for this year's awards was: "Celebrating the Stars of Supplier Diversity."
These awards were presented to corporations and individuals who actively include certified minority suppliers in their procurement opportunities; assist in the development of minority suppliers; and promote supplier diversity within their corporation and to their vendors. Mike Lucas of GE Healthcare earned "the 2009 President's Award." Mike Lucas placed GE Healthcare in a position of prominence in the healthcare community in Michigan and nationally through his work. He has embraced local minority businesses, recognizing the innovation and great benefits from participating in the supplier diversity effort of MMBDC.
The Michigan Minority Supplier Development Council is the largest organization of its kind in the world and has over 2500 members. The leadership of these companies has come to recognize Mike Lucas as a thought leader in supplier diversity.
Mr. Lucas joins former President Award winners: John Barth, former CEO of Johnson Controls and Dennis Archer, former Mayor of the City of Detroit and first African-American President of the American Bar Association.
"These corporations and individuals are the sparkle in our local economy because of the significant contributions they are making in these challenging economic times," said Louis Green, President and CEO of MMBDC. "Collectively through business opportunities and partnerships, they help sustain wealth and create jobs in our community."
