AeroScout, Inc., the leading provider of Unified Asset Visibility for the healthcare industry, today announced the first Wi-Fi-based visibility solution with built-in ultrasound capabilities for tracking assets, patients and staff in healthcare environments. With this new combination of Wi-Fi and ultrasound, AeroScout continues to extend the most comprehensive and cost efficient asset visibility solution for enterprise-wide indoor and outdoor asset tracking, room-level separation, bay-level resolution, chokepoint detection and condition monitoring. AeroScout offers the only solution that enables flexible deployments with combinations of technologies, such as Wi-Fi and ultrasound, suitable for a variety of applications throughout hospitals and healthcare organizations.

As with all AeroScout solutions, tags regularly transmit Wi-Fi signals, which enable location detection anywhere in a hospital or facility by leveraging existing Wi-Fi networks. Tagged assets and people are continually tracked enterprise-wide, and the new ultrasound capabilities – embedded into a single integrated Wi-Fi Tag – can be used for those areas requiring 100% room-level resolution. Importantly, if a critical medical device is being tracked using ultrasound in a specific department, it will continue to be tracked even if it moves to a different department or building, by leveraging an organization’s standard Wi-Fi network.

The Wi-Fi Ultrasound solution includes AeroScout’s Wi-Fi Tags with integrated ultrasound receivers, MobileView software and Ultrasound Exciters. Ultrasound Exciters are mounted in rooms and transmit ultrasound signals that do not pass through walls. When Wi-Fi Ultrasound Tags are in the same room as the Exciters, they receive the ultrasound signals and subsequently transmit messages over the Wi-Fi network that include the exact room location of the tagged asset or person.

AeroScout MobileView graphically displays assets, patients and staff at their precise locations, allowing clients to use location, status and condition data to improve business processes and better utilize assets. For healthcare organizations, the result is reduced capital and operational expenses, improved workflow and enhanced quality of care.
