Industry Veterans Appoints to Leadership at HIA

Dr. Richard C. Howe brings experience as CIO and HIMSS executive; Shirley Hughes brings extensive clinical management background to healthcare consulting and mobility company

InfoLogix, Inc., a leading technology provider of enterprise mobility solutions for the healthcare and commercial industries, today announced that Richard C. Howe, Ph.D., has joined Healthcare Informatics Associates (HIA), an InfoLogix company, as Vice President of Business Development, and Shirley Hughes has been appointed to the post of Vice President of Healthcare Consulting.

Leveraging his broad industry expertise, Howe will work with executive leadership to help current and new customers meet their IT goals in planning, selecting, and implementing wireless electronic medical records (EMRs) and other patient care technology.

Howe brings two decades of industry experience to InfoLogix, having previously served as a consultant, a CIO at university hospitals, and the National President of Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) from 1996-1997. Prior to his appointment with InfoLogix, he was Vice President of First Consulting Group and Partner at Computer Sciences Corporation (CSC). He has also served as President of eHealth Ventures and Vice President of Professional Services at MedPlus, Inc., where he was responsible for the design and launch of a physician portal electronic medical record product.

Earlier in his career, Dr. Howe was the CIO at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center in Cincinnati, Ohio, and at the University of Alabama Hospital in Birmingham, Ala. He has published more than 50 technical and scientific articles and is a frequent speaker at industry events. Howe received his BA, U.S. Army Commission, at the University of Colorado, and his Ph.D. in Medical Physiology from the University of California.

With an extensive clinical and management background, Shirley Hughes will be responsible for operations of the nationwide HIA consulting team in her new role as Vice President of Healthcare Consulting.

Hughes brings three decades of industry experience in clinical systems and management. Prior to HIA, she was Vice President of Client Services and Director of Business Development for a major healthcare technology firm, as well as Director of Marketing, Product Management and Advanced Technology with several hospital software vendors.

Hughes has been widely recognized for providing leadership to healthcare and information systems businesses in developing and applying new solutions for clinical information systems to support the people who deliver healthcare. She has extensive experience in working with various vendor systems including Epic, Cerner, Eclipsys, IDX, McKesson, Epic, cytopathology systems, perioperative systems, image analysis, telemedicine and numerous other clinical software packages.

In addition to her HIMSS membership, Hughes is a past member of the Board for the Center for Healthcare Information Management (CHIM) and is credited with over 40 articles and speaking engagements, including presentations for the Department of Health and Human Services Commission on Nursing, New York University, HIMSS, University of Maryland, The Queens Medical Center, and University of Virginia Health Sciences Center.
