Kleinberg’s Extensive Experience as Healthcare IT Executive and Strategist to Help HLI Accelerate Provider Adoption of Standard Medical Terminologies and EMR Interoperability
-Health Language, Inc. (HLI), the world’s leading supplier of language engine technology for medical vocabulary mapping and interoperability, announced today that it named Kenneth A. Kleinberg, FHIMSS, as vice president of business development. In this role, Kleinberg, who has more than 29 years experience as an IT executive, strategist and consultant, will focus on promoting and accelerating adoption of medical terminology management and standards as well as true interoperability of electronic medical records (EMRs) in the inpatient, ambulatory and extended care markets.
“We are very pleased to welcome Ken to our team," said George Schwend, HLI’s CEO and president. “His proven expertise in strategic business and IT planning combined with strong leadership skills, will help us better capitalize on the huge opportunities presented by President Obama’s economic stimulus plan, which recognizes that data needs to be shared and analyzed in real time to fully realize the benefits of EMR adoption.”
“HLI is the industry’s leading provider of healthcare language and standards-based interoperability software and services that enable evidence-based medicine,” Kleinberg stated. “I look forward to working with senior management to further extend HLI’s market leadership and to help drive the industry toward enhanced quality of care, improved outcomes and patient safety as well as greater efficiencies and cost savings.”
Kleinberg will co-present a workshop at the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) Conference titled “Leading the IT Charge: The Realities and Strategies of Healthcare IT Leadership,” on Saturday, April 4, 1:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m., Room S505 A, at McCormick Place in Chicago. Kleinberg and co-presenter Kim Slocum, FHIMSS, president of KDS Consulting LLC, will assess the current U.S. healthcare landscape; examine issues, including interoperability, that influence stakeholder attitudes toward IT; and explore leadership and change management skills that IT professionals need to succeed.
Prior to joining HLI, Kleinberg served as a vice president of business development and hospital strategist at Chicago-based Allscripts Misys Healthcare Solutions Inc., where he drove business and technology partnerships and helped hospitals leverage the Stark exception to provide electronic health records (EHRs), personal health records (PHRs), interoperability and related technologies to their community physicians.
Previously, Kleinberg was senior director of global healthcare at Symbol Technologies, which today is the core of Motorola Inc.’s enterprise mobility business. He was responsible for growing Symbol’s healthcare mobile, wireless, bar coding and radio frequency identification businesses.
He also served as vice president, research director and editor-in-chief of healthcare at Gartner, covering advanced and emerging technologies including mobile and wireless information systems, business process management, workflow, reengineering, document management, applications development and knowledge-based systems. Kleinberg also was director of New Science Associate’s Applied Intelligent Systems service, and a consultant at Coopers and Lybrand and Unisys Corp.
Kleinberg is a member of the HIMSS Patient Safety and Quality Outcomes Steering Committee and co-editor of the HIMSS book titled, "Implementation Guide to Bar Coding and Auto-ID in Healthcare” that will be released on April 4th at the HIMSS Conference.
