dental_medical-trascriptionOutsourcing radiology diagnosis to teleradiology companies is a rapidly growing trend with advantages inluding cost effectiveness, increased workflow, reduced turnaround times etc. And there are an increasing number of global teleradiology companies that claim to provide services from board certified radiologists using cutting edge technology.

While teleradiology outsourcing have become an emerging trend wordwide, the authors the JACR article, David C. Levin, MD, Vijay M. Rao, MD, discusses the serious negative impacts of teleradiology outsourcing which include the likelihood of commoditization of the field, lowering of fees, displacement from hospital contracts and outpatient reading contracts, greater encroachment by other specialties, and lowering of quality.

The controversial article have created a debate in the industry about how outsourcing have become a boon for primary physicians to delegate their weekend and out of hour responsibilities to these companies which affects the quality of the practice.
