Healthcare Informatics ACR and RSNA Comment on PCAST HIT Report

ACR and RSNA Comment on PCAST HIT Report

Healthcare IT News - Healthcare Informatics

ACR & RSNA submitted comments to the Office of the National Coordinator for HIT (ONC) addressing the PCAST report.

The American College of Radiology (ACR) and Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) submitted comments to the Office of the National Coordinator for HIT (ONC) addressing the President's Council of Advisors on Science and Technology (PCAST) report titled "Realizing the Full Potential of Health Information Technology to Improve Healthcare for Americans: The Path Forward."

Published in December 2010, the PCAST report provided a variety of broad HIT policy recommendations to relevant federal agencies, including ONC.  Among its numerous other recommendations, PCAST called for adoption of a universal exchange language that would allow for the secure sharing of relevant health information based on metadata-tagged elements. Unfortunately, the report did not adequately address Integrating the Healthcare Enterprise and other important initiatives already happening in the HIT community.

Upon release of the PCAST report, ONC issued a request for information (RFI) to the public regarding potential ways to implement the recommendations through meaningful use and other federal initiatives.  The comments submitted jointly by ACR and RSNA specifically address the questions posed by this RFI.
