The patient engagement action group will lead the industry and other key stakeholders in solving challenges and identifying opportunities related to patient engagement in healthcare. Institute for Health Technology Transformation (iHT) announced today.

The Patient Engagement Action Group’s mission is to become an influential and knowledgeable “think tank” group in the healthcare industry. The group will strive to provide insight about and establish best practices and guidelines for patient engagement through thoughtful analysis and research.

The group will be chaired by Donna Scott, Executive Director – Marketing Strategy, RelayHealth, and joining her as Action Group Members will be Howard Rosen, CEO, Life:WIRE; Brad Tritle, Executive Director, Arizona Health-e Connection; Shadaab Kanwal, Director of Clinical Informatics, UCLA Health Services; Michael Brown, MD, Chief Information Officer, Harvard University Health Services; Adam Clark, PhD, Director of Science and Policy, Lance Armstrong Foundation Member, ONC Health IT Policy Committee; Indu Subaiya, MD, MBA, Co-Founder, Health 2.0; and Pamela Law, MD, David Geffen School of Medicine, Affiliated with Health 2.0.

“There is no debate about whether patients will become more engaged in their own healthcare,” said Donna Scott, Executive Director – Marketing Strategy, RelayHealth. “That is clearly already happening. However, there are quite a few perspectives on how this trend will impact the healthcare process, physicians, hospitals, employers…and even patients themselves. The Patient Engagement Action Group will focus on providing a new set of insights and direction on patient engagement.”

The Patient Engagement Action Group will be focused on defining patient engagement, identifying key trends, analyzing outcomes data, and understanding the impact that patient engagement is having on the delivery of care. From there the group will provide insights and recommendations in a variety of formats for industry consideration.

“Over the course of the next decade, the healthcare system will witness a transformation towards personalized medicine and a learning healthcare environment built upon applications in information technology and molecular medicine,” said Adam Clark, PhD, Director of Science and Policy, Lance Armstrong Foundation Member, ONC Health IT Policy Committee.

“Patients will have an essential role in this transformation as consumers of health technologies and partners with their care team in managing their health.”
