Insight On Middle East's Healthcare Industry
| Healthcare IT News - Healthcare Informatics |
In a report titled “Future IT Trends and Projects: Healthcare Technology in the Middle East (Industry Focus)", Datamonitor provide an insight into the Middle East's healthcare IT industry in 2009.
The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), which includes Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and referred to as the Middle East in this report, is investing in healthcare and corresponding healthcare IT in the near term as its component countries seek to diversify their economies. While Saudi Arabia, in large part due to its sheer size, is most likely to be the biggest market in the region, the UAE is currently the most advanced market. However, at times the Middle East struggles to modernise while holding on to its traditions. Datamonitor believes that the following trends will emerge in the Middle Eastern healthcare IT market in the next five to ten years:
- New hospitals are being built with cutting edge healthcare IT infrastructure.
- With high rates of mobile phone usage, the Middle Eastern market may be ready for SMS-delivered services.
- High population turnover and the medical tourism market should spur the adoption of personal health records.
