Healthcare IT News - Healthcare Informatics

Recombinant Data Corp., a healthcare data warehousing and clinical intelligence provider, announced that Matvey B. Palchuk, MD, MS has joined the company as director of medical informatics.

Dr. Palchuk is an expert in medical and clinical informatics and currently holds an academic appointment as an instructor at Harvard Medical School. “During his tenure at Harvard, he constructed the i2b2 ontology used within the Shared Health Research Information Network (SHRINE), as well as the terminology conversion technology known as the Shared Health Research Informatics Mapping Program (SHRIMP). We are pleased to have his expertise on the Recombinant team.” Prior to joining Recombinant, Dr. Palchuk was an interlingua architect at the Center for Biomedical Informatics (CBMI) at Harvard University where he worked on i2b2-related ontology projects and was responsible for creating an infrastructure to support collaborative environments among Harvard-affiliated hospitals and research institutions. Dr. Palchuk’s focus was on user interface issues, controlled terminologies, software integration and structured data entry.

Dr. Palchuk recently received a distinguished paper award from the AMIA Annual Symposium for his submission titled “An Unintended Consequence of Electronic Prescriptions: Prevalence and Impact of Internal Discrepancies.” The paper addressed a concern for inconsistencies found in ambulatory EMR systems that could potentially lead to adverse drug events. “Dr. Palchuk brings a tremendous amount of domain knowledge both from a clinical and informatics standpoint,” said Peter Emerson, CEO, Recombinant Data Corp. “During his tenure at Harvard, he constructed the i2b2 ontology used within the Shared Health Research Information Network (SHRINE), as well as the terminology conversion technology known as the Shared Health Research Informatics Mapping Program (SHRIMP). We are pleased to have his expertise on the Recombinant team.”

Dr. Palchuk received his MD from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and completed an Internal Medicine residency program at MCP Hahnemann University in Philadelphia. He completed a Medical Informatics fellowship funded by the National Library of Medicine at the Children’s Hospital Informatics Program in Boston and earned a Master's degree in Medical Informatics through the Health Sciences and Technology Division of Harvard and MIT.
