Multi-million spend on health IT
Hewlett-Packard has been awarded the contract to modernise technology controlling hospital patient administration. The contract is a framework to procure ICT equipment and services for a number of projects, worth between £10m and £70m over four years.
The department said having the contract would drive up efficiency. Health Minister Michael McGimpsey said health and social care relied on information technology "to provide an efficient and effective business". "Information technology is used to support a number of front line services such as theatre management, cancer screening and ambulance booking," he said. "These are vital services and as such must run smoothly to ensure people get the right care and treatment."
The minister said that with Hewlett-Packard as a technological partner, health and social care would have improved access to a broad range of goods and services, all of which would be help the sector.The amount of money spent will depend on the services bought through the contract. Martin Murphy, managing director of HP Ireland, said their "technology solutions delivered were best in class".
"Under this framework, HP will provide professional services and products to health and social care regional projects in Northern Ireland, enabling them to better adapt to today's demand and meet future challenges," he said.
