I have seen concern over the lack of bed side manner become a recurring theme in medicine over the last 30 years. I’m one of those old enough, and I guess fortunate enough, to remember when doctors actually made house calls. So as I look back I can see the thin veneers of efficiency that have crept into my medical experience as a patient that have served to act as layers in the distancing between the physician and myself.
