Charity vs. Welfare by Ted Bacharach MD (retired)

Healthcare Blogs - Healthcare Reflections Blogs
There was a news report recently about billionaires who were going to donate a significant portion of their wealth to charitable or not-for-profit organizations. This aroused what little thinking capacity that remains in my ancient brain. What really is the definition of “charity” and “welfare”. After some time I reached the conclusion that if the government supplies relief to individuals it is welfare but if ndividuals provide relief it is charity. The other advantage of charity versus welfare is that the funds donated to charity are tax deductible whereas the funds distributed by welfare are not.

A rose by any other-----.

I guess Democrats believe in welfare and Republicans believe in charity.
