Germany's Healthcare Secret
| Healthcare Blogs - Healthcare Reflections Blogs |

We often hear about how Europe's health care system is run so much more efficiently and cheaply than ours. Here is a little tidbit that I never knew. Germany is one of the last European countries that has a military draft. The caveat to that is they allow anyone who seeks to be a conscientious objector to opt out and do public service. In 2009, 150,000 men out of 226,000 deemed fit to serve took this route. Where do they go? As the WSJ article states, "hospitals, clinics and nursing homes have come to depend on the labor of such civilian servants". Hmmm, ancient German secret, huh?
