Medicaid Diversion
| Healthcare Blogs - Healthcare Reflections Blogs |

A large drug bust has occurred in Buffalo. The authorities there have discovered a huge illicit prescription medication operation going on using Medicaid patients. A 60-year-old woman was highlighted "hurting" in the article because of how well she worked the system in order to get her drugs quickly. She then moved them on to her dealer who eventually brought them to the street. There were 33 people "charged so far in a large-scale investigation that has opened a window into an emerging class of suppliers in the illicit drug trade: medical patients, including many who rely on the publicly funded Medicaid program to pay for their appointments and prescriptions." The investigators there were amazed at how big this operation was. I was not. I cannot tell you how often I see narc seekers trying to work me. I have caught many and turned others away. This is a HUGE source of income for some Medicaid patients. Think about it. No work, free health care, and a source of revenue just by faking pain. A perfect system.
