University of Conflict

Pfizer is going into collaboration with the University of California, San Francisco for drug development. They are going to pay the school $85 million over five years to discover new meds. The researchers at UCSF would be able to publish the results of the work and the university itself would share in the profits from the drugs with Pfizer. And everyone live happily ever after. Pfizer is aslo preparing to have this arrangement at many other schools as well. Does anyone else see a conflict with a university basically being bought out by a pharmaceutical company? And I can't get a pen from a drug rep without being called a whore?
