Californians Hoping For Healthcare Reform
| Healthcare Reform - Healthcare Reform |
According to a study by the UCLA Center for Health Policy Research, over 8.2 million Californians lack health insurance in two years and they believe that healthcare reform would help them.
There is some hope with healthcare reform that may be voted on in Congress very soon. The pending reforms go directly to the issue raised in the UCLA report, by providing families the financial assistance and purchasing power so that they don’t lose coverage just because they lose their job. People would get an assurance that they won’t have to pay more than a percentage of their income for premiums.
By 2014, the healthcare reform would allow expansion of Medicaid for 1.5-2 million Californians up to 133% of the federal poverty level, and for the first three years, the federal government will pick up the entire cost of coverage for the newly eligible.
By preventing cuts in the current healthcare system, the Californians will get through a recession and a foundation will be layed, which the healthcare reform would do in the upcoming years.
